no. 6

Two seriously important women in my life have both had their SIXTH babies in the last month.  Impressive, right?    

First came Mr. Harrison McKay Waite.  

Harrison's mom, Stephanie, is my sister-in-law.  Forget the "in law" part.  I love this woman like a sister.

 

I have one cute nephew.  

During this Easter weekend visit we had a mini photo session on my bed & I snuggled him as much as possible.  There is nothing better than a newborn sleeping on your chest!

Stephanie (my sister-in-law) and her family came for a visit this month. We made our annual trip to ikea, a stop at sprinkles cupcakes for some red velvet, celebrated annie's birthday, had dinner with darren, nikki, spencer and kathryn, and visited the beach. The beach afternoon was a remarkably clear and pretty. We let the kids play and I snapped a few frames. I've already posted a few in my "dailies" (over there) --------->

It's raining again today, so I decided to work on more of these warm sunny photos!

Recently, I was able to spend a rare day with my cousins Amy and Cary.  Gone are the days of family vacations together and gathering together at Grandma and Grandpa's house.  So... it was a wonderful treat to be together!  We chatted, snapped a few photos, had lunch, snapped some more photos, and took a walk to the park.  The results:

I can't get enough of newborn bits and pieces.  precious.

The connection between these two was strong.  I loved peeking into their cozy world for a few moments. 

    

the polka dot girls

I think my love for polka dots began at an early age.  I remember watching The Polka Dot Door at my grandparents house in Salt Lake City, then walking around the rest of the day singing the theme song.  They didn't have the polka dot door on NY television, so it was an extra special treat.  Do any of you remember watching & listening to this song being sung?  It makes me all warm and fuzzy hearing it again.

With my love of the dots, imagine my happiness when I see these two girls arrive in these sweaters!  We had fun together singing, dancing, discussing our favorite princesses, and creating beautiful portraits.  Christy, my friend, here is a peek at your girls.

This serves as my official announcement that I've started taking photography clients. :D 

I guess that makes my a photographer?!?  Why is that so hard to say out loud?  Maybe it's because I never dreamed that my fun hobby would lead me to this place.  My father in his counsel to many many people has said, "Do what you love and you will be successful".  I know this is the truth. 

Photography is my passion.  I can honestly say I've found my niche.  I don't tire of it.  There is so much to learn and I have so far to go, but that hill to climb is what excites me!  I love the potential I have to grow in this art.  To capture.  To create.   

Now with all that said, I do realize that I am a mother first and foremost!  Motherhood, with all its joys and hard work, is my full-time job.  My kids are no. 1.  So, this photography gig will fit in around them.  I will only be taking a few clients a month in an effort to preserve my sanity, keep my kids happy, and sleep a bit too.  I am lucky to have a husband who understands my need for creativity, supports me by being with the kids while I'm off shooting, and also reminds me to keep my priorities straight.  thanks, morgan.

My fabulous friend melissa had me over recently to catch her boys in action.  Her home was my playground!  Wonderful light, cool furniture and accessories, darling family.  They were up for anything and I was in heaven.  It was really hard narrowing down only a few to share.  hope you enjoy, melissa.

I was lucky enough to photography the edmonds family last week.  We had a lot of fun playing at a regional park.  They are a busy bunch with 3 kids, ages 4 and under.  It reminded me of my own crew!  I know you have been waiting for a peek, Danielle... so here are a few favorites from the session.

All week I have been worried about how the fires would affect this weekend.  This was a weekend our whole family has been looking forward to.  This was the weekend that Darren (Morgan's brother) married the fabulous Nikki Brown!!!!!   The smoke was present, but didn't take center stage.  This couple, who waited patiently to find each other, was the center of attention.  Nikki looked radiant.  Darren handsome in his real bow-tie.  The reception was comfortable and felt like a big reunion of friends.  Their marriage in the Newport Beach temple was touching and beautiful.  My mascara was g.o.n.e. by the end of it! The festivities wrapped up with yummy barbeque and (both) hilarious and tear-jerking toasts to the bride and groom.  It was a weekend I won't soon forget.

A bit about the new couple... Darren and Nikki are so great together.  They complement eachother perfectly, make eachother better, and are happy.  It's wonderful to see Darren and Nikki just plain happy.  I was able to take some engagement photos a few months ago.  I've been waiting to post these, as I wanted them to be debuted at the wedding reception first!

so, I do realize I am suppossed to be playing july catch up in order...

but I cannot resist posting these photos.

last weekend was divine.  I stole away to seattle to be with 7 of my college girlfriends.  {much more on the girls weekend festivities to come... I am working on a slideshow!}  One of my friends, Sara, brought her baby Charlotte along.  Yes, Sara and I have babies with the same name.  Great minds think alike!   

It was said many times during the weekend that Charlotte is a practically perfect baby!  I think I heard her cry once all weekend.  I couldn't resist turning my camera on her. :)

I had the chance to photograph Jeff, who is just about to graduate from high school. He's a very cool kid, son of our dear friends.   He was also the first teenage boy I have ever worked with!   

I love practicing with teenagers... we just laughed and laughed the whole time.  His mom was doing mollly shannon impersonations the whole time.  Jeff even busted out a few brian regan lines. 

Congrats Jeff on graduation and good luck jumping into the real world!
