January: 12x12

Starting my dozen photos on the 12th day of the month for 2013.  I missed the excuse to pick up my camera and photograph the everyday in 2012.  So I'm back at it.

A Saturday in January.

01.  SC Donuts on a Saturday morning.  Berk likes a maple bar, Stella a glazed twist, Charlotte & Isaac prefer sprinkled... and Isaac eats the frosting off leaving the rest!

02. Saturday morning chores are routine, yet still dreaded and complained about.  It's January, so "Organize 1 area in your room with Mom" was included.

03. It's cooooooold for southern california.  Highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s.  We entertained with perler beads and friends over!

04. Merry Christmas to me.  A new mirror over the mantle makes me happy.

05. The calendar (pretty empty!) via iphone.

06.  Love Charlotte and her teeth (or lack thereof).

07. Isaac horsing around.  Typical.

08. I can't bring myself to taking down the Christmas cards.  I love all those faces staring back at me.

09. My lame self portrait after spending most of my afternoon at the hair salon.  It took waaaay too long and I'm a mourning the 3 inches that I agreed to chop off.  What was I thinking?  

10. Typical Saturday afternoon-- pillows everywhere and football watching/lounging.

11.  Stella trying out her new book light.  She almost has Harry Potter Vol. 1 complete.

12. Mr. I doing what he does best... avoiding bedtime.

I'm glad I jumped into the 12 on 12, but man am I RUSTY with my camera!   I'm not in love with all of these snapshots, but I know in 20 years I will be.

12of12: April

Have I mentioned lately how much I love this project?  Once a month is about my speed & I'm especially loving the "day in the life" documentation!  I'm already dreaming about the 144 page 2011 book I'll print up in December. 

01.  Charlotte's started "reading" to Isaac.  He insists on holding the book & randomly turning pages.  Charlotte's also learning some patience!

02.  My desk.  This is a normal, daily view.  I see now that I need something pretty to hold all the papers waiting their turn for my attention.

03.  Toddler fingers and toes.  Still a little bit chubby (& most definitely irresistible), but a glimpse of the boy he'll soon be!

04.  The 12of12 reminded me to get out my Easter decorations.  I have about three total, but Stella was really into them. 

05.  My electronic brain.  Really, what would I do without my iphone?

06.  Charlotte at preschool.  This girl loves it there, but can NOT stop talking about kindergarten.  It's hard to believe I'll have 3 kids in elementary school come September!

07.  Trader Joe's loot.  Isaac sacrificed his noon nap for milk and eggs.

08. After school pick up and piano for Berk, it was homework time.  

09.  Tuesday is the day I do the most taxi-ing around town.  Isaac rarely falls asleep in the car, but I'm so glad I had my camera close by when he did.

10.  Signs of spring.  The hydrangea by the front door are sprouting.  Can't wait to enjoy those big, beautiful blooms soon!

11.  Berk's love for basketball lives on.  After a team practice, he was outside for more shooting.

12.  The normally brown hills are green and dotted with these yellow mustard plants.  I look forward to this yellow and green month all year long!  Pretty.

Spring is officially here.  That means my favorite season is just around the corner!

12of12: March

I cheated a bit on this 12of12 this month!  I was away from home again on the 12th, so these photos were all taken on Saturday, March 5th.  The actual date was less important to me than capturing a typical Saturday in the Harris household.  So here it is, my 12 of 5...

01. 7:27am.  Official wake up time on this Saturday.  It's sad that this is "sleeping in" for me.  Morgan left for a run at about 7, and the kids could only fend for themselves for about 1/2 hour.

02. Stella with great morning hair and stealing dad's after workout smoothie.  Banana/Chocolate/Almond in the vitamix.  My speciality.

03.  I couldn't pass up the Scholastic Book order of the "Little House on the Prairie" series.  Stella has started the first and likes it so far!  Maybe someday we'll find old reruns of Little House to watch on TV.  I loved to hate that Nellie!

04.  Isaac has learned to stack his wooden block set.  Not pictured is him throwing the blocks one by one across the room after the stacking was finished.  When taking pics, I got hit by a block.  Job hazard, I guess.

05. Ranunculus season is here.  TJs keeps me stocked with fresh flowers, but I think a flower fields visit may be in order.

06. These preschool calendars are displayed with pride around here.  I love each one more than the last!

07.  Charlotte & Callie played happily all morning long. Bouncing on the bed and then falling down with giggles was a hit with the 3-4 year old crowd.

08. Charlotte's cookie crumb face concentrating.  Hello Kitty coloring books are taken seriously!

09.  It was a gorgeous day.  Sunny and unusually warm.  The kids spent much of the day outside scootering, bike riding & picnicking.  Isaac likes rides on the plasma car (with vacuum attachment in hand) & likes his big brother even more.  

10.  Orange laces and a purple scooter.  The wishes of a 9 year old.

11.  Proof of a beautiful day.  It was made even more beautiful as I got to sneak out to my favorite 4:30 hot yoga class.

12.  Clear days make amazing sunsets.  After yoga, I drove the 1/2 mile to the beach to check out the sunset.  Life is good.

12of12: February

01. As much as I can't live without my iphone, I also can't get away from a paper list.  Getting packed for a 24 hour trip to Las Vegas.

02. Stella reads to Charlotte in this spot every morning.  Really, no exaggeration.  They were extra happy for this Saturday morning when Stella wasn't rushed off to school.

03. Road trip!  Stella, Isaac and I head to Las Vegas up I-15.  The trip had dual purposes:  Attend niece Annie's baptism and drop Isaac off with Grandma for the week (sob).

04. Isaac getting his wiggles out in Barstow while I top off with gas and fill up the cup.

05. am/pm has the best ice around.  Where else can you choose cube or pellet?  Soda's not the norm, but road trips without a husband call for caffeine.

06.  The day via iphone.  Berk, Charlotte & Dad stay home for those two basketball games.

07. The Waite family needed a photo update.  Stephanie (pregnant with her 6th child) has been named Nevada's Young Mother of the year!  

08.  We took advantage of some Vegas connections and got a great deal on Stella's very first violin.  She starts suzuki lessons in March.

09.  Harris women I adore.  Lesli, Nan & Steph.  After the baptism, I dragged them out in fading light to snap a photo together.  

10.  Cousin wii time!  Just Dance is a hit.

11.  After obsessing over it for 3 days,  Stella give Nan her valentine.  On it she drew a picture of one of her favorite things-- painting & art lessons with her Grandma.

12.  The Waite's enormous wall calendar (that I try not to envy).  I wish I had a spot in my home for one like it.

 

I was really looking forward to another 12 of 12 day!  This project is a lot of fun for me.  I knew the day would be different since we were on the road.   The trip to Las Vegas to see family is done often and is pretty normal around here.  I'm glad I had the excuse to capture it!

It's been less than 12 hours and I am missing my isaac already though...

12of12: January

A new year, a new photo project!  

I'm getting a little wiser & less ambitious as the years pass.  I've attempted (with little success) a photo a day project.  Then it was a once a week/52 photos project.  I was less than perfect in that endeavor as well.  I never finished those projects, but I'm glad I have SOMETHING.

This year, I'm going to attempt a once a month project. I hope I can keep up.  On the 12th day of each month I'll carry my camera with me and capture a normal day.   This month it landed on a calm Wednesday.  I really love the result.  

01. Isaac is awake for the day. Talking up a storm already.  A 7:00am blue light just peeking through his windows.  

02. Took time to go to stake temple day.  It was a beautiful.

03. Homemade bread and TJs creamed honey sustain me today.  The kids love it almost as much as I do.

04. Aunt Traci is visiting and so there is extra reading and game playing going on.  The kids love it almost as much as I do. :)

05. Every spare minute Berk has is spent playing sports with his friends.  These neighborhood boys play a mean game of flag football.

06. Charlotte is home from a long (11-3) day at school.  She always comes home with a smile on her face.

07. Lavender on my counter makes dishes a little happier.

08. Isaac watches big brother from the window.

09. More fun time with Traci, this time under the parachute playing "house" with the bears.

10. More evidence of an Aunt Traci visit... braids that don't come naturally to mom's fingers.

11. Wednesday is the only day of the week I don't run one carpool.  I absolutely savor the respite mid week.

12. A pre-bedtime peek at her changing smile.  Stella's now lost 4 teeth.
